Joining the
project late in the construction stage, it was my duty to status the
progress that had been Achieved. Walk down all the
remaining
test packs in my area, for the initial work to go lists and release those
test packs for hydrostatic or pneumatic test.
Drive the
remaining punch list items to closeout. Solve everyday construction
problems and manage the various subcontractors.
My areas included, K.T.I.
Incinerator, Waste Water Treatment Plant, Solvent Recovery and Solvent
Tank Farm.

The Esters
project is the most successful joint venture in the Peoples Republic of
China. A standard for thing to come.
Whilst the
project is relatively small, only 3 expatriates including the Project
manager and 20 Nationals in the PMT team. It has offered a variety of
experiences. Also it has increased my understanding of
China.
The project
specification are both International (ASME and API) and local Chinese
standards.
Responsibilities as
the client were to monitor the contractor's progress on a daily basis. To
identify any potential delays to schedule, and to ensure that our target
zero safety goal was maintained. Visit vendors in various locations with
in China and check their quality procedures and documentation and that
they were being implemented.
To monitor
the erection of the on product storage tanks, on site and off site. Monitor all
welding on the project, interpreting the Radiographic films and keeping
track of failure percentages. Ensuring that all repairs are carried out to
the correct specification. Carry out final punch walk downs on behalf of
the client. Assist in the training and coaching of the work force in the
rectification of outstanding punch items, to ensure closure.

August 2000 - June 2001: Lead Piping
Superintendent.
|
|
Responsible for managing the daily activities of expatriate
and national Superintendents during the fabrication and installation
of piping systems up to hand over to the start-up engineers. The
systems included Hazardous Gas / Liquids, Process, Utilities and
Domestic plumbing systems. Areas included Protocol level '5' clean
room areas. Also responsible for the overall installation of the
underground Gas mains throughout the site area and the operation of
the lock out / tag out procedures.
Liaison on
design issues with the client, Motorola and their design
consultants. Responsible for ensuring that all punch works were
completed to the satisfaction of Motorola whilst maintaining the
project completion schedules to the very strict completion schedules
dictated by the client and dating completion information through
team works (Bechtel database). Additionally responsible for system
start up and hand over (including documentation) to Motorola
commissioning group. The bp/Yaraco joint venture Esters project
has been a great success, coming in with no lost time accidents, 12%
below the estimated budget and on schedule.
